Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry Treatments

In recent years, advances in dental technology have led to numerous cosmetic procedures that offer long-lasting results for improving dental health and aesthetics. Advances such as Zoom!® teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, and crowns, available for Cary and Raleigh-area patients at Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, allow patients to attain the brighter, more vibrant smile they deserve.

Zoom!® Teeth Whitening

Whitening your teeth is one of the quickest ways to improve the appearance of your smile. In about an hour and a half, the Zoom!® teeth whitening process can remove years of stains and discoloration caused by coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco, and leave you with a smile that is six to ten shades whiter. With the Zoom!® teeth whitening process, patients from Raleigh and Cary and surrounding areas can visit our office to get a brilliantly white smile while they relax in the dentist’s chair.

The Zoom!® Teeth Whitening Process

When you come in for the Zoom!® teeth whitening treatment, we will first apply a hydrogen peroxide based gel to your teeth. Next, a special light will be focused on your smile to enhance the gel's lightening effect. When the Zoom!® procedure is finished, your teeth will be up to ten times whiter. If you take the time to maintain your brighter smile, the results of a Zoom!® teeth whitening treatment can last for many years.

At-Home Whitening Options

We also offer take-home teeth whitening kits for those patients who would rather whiten their teeth in the comfort of their own home. We will discuss the many options available to you and recommend what we feel is the right procedure or product for you.

Results of Teeth Whitening

Both in-office Zoom!® teeth whitening treatments at our Cary office and at-home professional teeth whitening treatments achieve dramatic transformations, lightening teeth up to ten shades in a short time. With proper aftercare, the results can last for years. To see the difference professional bleaching has made for some of our patients, visit our Smile Gallery.

Porcelain Veneers

If your smile is in need of more extensive cosmetic work, you may want to consider porcelain veneers. Veneers can correct a variety of cosmetic problems, from discoloration to chipped, cracked, or crooked teeth. In addition to traditional veneers, our practice provides LUMINEERS® porcelain veneers for patients from Cary and Raleigh and surrounding areas.

Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Both LUMINEERS® and traditional porcelain veneers can restore a balanced, white appearance to smiles marred by misaligned, discolored, or chipped teeth. Since porcelain veneers are placed in about three office visits, they can be a time-saving alternative to braces. Veneers look and feel completely natural and can last for years.

Placing Porcelain Veneers

If you choose to enhance the aesthetics of your smile with porcelain veneers, three visits to our Cary office are typically necessary to have them placed. During your first visit, we will discuss the procedure with you in great detail so you can determine whether it is right for you. If you decide to receive veneers, you will return to our office, where we can do no prep, no shot LUMINEERS® by Cerinate. If necessary we will remove a small amount of tooth enamel and take an impression of your teeth. Based on that impression, your porcelain veneers will be crafted to perfectly match your smile. Typically, it takes between two and three weeks for the veneers to be custom-crafted. When they are ready, you will return for your third and final office visit so the thin shells of porcelain can be bonded to your existing teeth, instantly transforming your smile.

Porcelain Crowns

Our dentists often use porcelain crowns for patients from Raleigh, Cary, and surrounding areas who have badly cracked or chipped teeth. Porcelain crowns are caps that are placed over damaged or decayed teeth to restore them to their original shape, size, and function. Crowns are also useful for affixing dental bridges and for covering dental implants.

Benefits of Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns cover and protect damaged teeth and are a common choice in restorative dentistry because of their non-invasive placement procedure and relatively low cost. Modern crowns are custom crafted to blend with the surrounding teeth for a natural look and feel. Crowns can typically be placed in just two office visits, making them a convenient option for patients who need a quick solution for missing or damaged teeth.

Placing Porcelain Crowns

Depending on the extent of damage present in your tooth, you may first need to undergo a root canal before we can place a crown. We will trim down your tooth to make room for the crown and take an impression of your teeth in order to manufacture it. We then bond the finished crown to the prepared tooth and ensure that it integrates with perfectly with the surrounding teeth. With proper dental hygiene, your porcelain crown can last many years. Smile Assessment & Consultation

At our practice, we enjoy meeting with patients and discussing potential cosmetic dentistry options. When you visit us for a free smile consultation, we will evaluate your cosmetic dentistry goals and recommend a procedure or combination of procedures that we feel will lead to optimal results. Our emphasis is on maintaining your dental health while providing you with a beautiful smile that will last for many years.

Bonding

Dental bonding is a quick, highly effective solution to chips, cracks, and other cosmetic problems on the front teeth. The procedure involves reconstructing the appearance of a tooth using tooth-colored material. Our practice first selects a shade of material that most closely resembles the natural color of your teeth. We place a thin layer of the material onto your tooth and smooth it into a desired shape. Finally, we harden it with a high intensity light and polish the surface. The entire procedure can be performed in just one office visit.

Implant Restoration

Dental implants are an extraordinary, state-of-the-art solution to missing teeth. They are long lasting, look and feel natural, and can greatly improve your ability to eat, speak, and smile. If you already have implant posts in place and simply need new restorations, we will custom craft “replacement teeth” to place on the implant posts in order to maintain the beauty of your smile. If you do not already have implant posts, we will work with a team of oral surgeons and periodontists who can provide this service for you.

Family Dentistry Treatments

Family & Cosmetic Dentistry wants each member of our patients’ families to receive the treatment they need at our practice. We provide an array of treatment options in addition to Zoom!® teeth whitening and porcelain veneers and crowns to help families in Raleigh, Cary, and surrounding areas maintain optimal dental health.

Comprehensive Exams

Dr. Ferri and Dr. Lawrence offer high quality comprehensive dental care for every member of your family. When you come in for a routine appointment, you will receive a complete dental cleaning and a thorough exam. To evaluate the health of your teeth and gums, our practice utilizes a digital X-ray system that provides 90 percent less radiation than traditional X-rays. To give you a firsthand view of the problems in your mouth, we may also use an intraoral camera. Pictures taken by the camera are immediately transmitted to a screen located directly in your treatment room and can easily be enhanced or enlarged. Upon examination of your teeth and gums, we will evaluate whether you have early signs of gum disease, known as gingivitis. If gingivitis is present, we can recommend a course of treatment to save your teeth. If the disease has already progressed too far, we can suggest restorative dentistry options to restore aesthetic appeal to your smile. As part of the exam you will be offered ViziLite®, an FDA-approved oral cancer screening exam that involves a 60 second rinse and examination with a special intra-oral light. Any pre-cancerous cells will be detected and referral for early treatment can be accomplished, drastically improving the outcome.

Pediatric Dentistry

Our dental team enjoys working with children and helping them form excellent dental hygiene habits from a young age. We are gentle and attentive to children’s needs, yet treat them with the same level of respect we provide to all of our patients. We understand the specific dental requirements of children and will provide appropriate treatment to best maintain their oral health. For instance, we administer fluoride treatments to protect children’s vulnerable teeth from decay. Our practice also applies sealants, a quick procedure that is extremely effective at preventing dental problems. Sealants are simply painted on the chewing surface of a child’s back teeth to “seal out” decay.

If you would like to make a dental appointment for your child or have questions about pediatric dentistry, please contact our office today. If your child needs special attention or has specific needs we cannot address, we can refer him or her to a number of pediatric dentists in the community.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

At our practice, tooth-colored composite fillings have replaced the silver (amalgam) fillings of the past. Tooth-colored fillings offer several advantages over metal fillings. In addition to blending in with surrounding teeth, they contain no potentially dangerous mercury and therefore present no threat to your health. They also allow more of your original tooth to stay intact and are extremely durable and long lasting.

Inlays & Onlays

When decay or damage is too extensive for a filling, inlays and onlays can be used to restore structure to a tooth. In order to create an inlay or onlay, we will first take an impression of your tooth. Using that impression, we will craft a customized inlay or onlay out of durable porcelain or resin, and complete the process by fitting the structure into the tooth. Both inlays and onlays are longer lasting than traditional fillings.

Bridges

A dental bridge is a simple way to “bridge the gap” created by a missing tooth. Comfortable and secure, a bridge is a carefully crafted artificial tooth positioned between two custom-made porcelain crowns. Once in place, a bridge can help improve your ability to eat, speak, and smile for many years.
